*Scriptures from the King James Version except where indicated
The prophet Samuel had the task of finding a new king for all of Israel. Prepared with oil to anoint the new king, among 8 sons of a man named Jesse. Samuel was to go before each son and ask the Lord which son had God chosen. Samuel, (like most of us probably would have done) looked at the physical appearance of these men. One son named Eliab really caught Samuel’s attention and he said…
Surely the LORD’S anointed is before him. (1 Samuel 16:6 )
But the Lord revealed something wonderful about his character in the following verse…
1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
Eventually, Samuel ended up passing up 7 of Jesse’s biggest and brightest to anoint one who was merely a shepherd…David. Even Jesse hesitated regarding David being the one chosen of God.
You know, I suppose I could refer to that old saying “Never judge a book by it’s cover.”
But sometimes, I think we all fall into this trap. Maybe picking an insurance person because they seem to have all their ducks in row. Accomplishment placks on the walls etc. Only to find out we’ve been swindled by a smooth talking crook. It could be someone of the opposite sex that we really want to get to know because of how they look. Maybe, what they drive or what kind of job they have, not even knowing if that person inwardly is a wolf or rat.
Sometimes, I think we pass up really nice, honest people in life, for business, relationships etc., because they didn’t fit our expectations of what the real McCoy is supposed to look like.
Maybe a company passed you up for promotion or being hired because of how you appeared to them in their eye’s. But they would only be hurting themselves if they picked the wrong person.

But like David, let your integrity and faithfulness shine. Because, even if no one else in this world does, God will look at your heart too.
When making choices, whether it’s pertaining to dealing with someone in business or personal situations. Or, just making decisions in general remember (Proverbs 3:6)
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
